MINISTER SILVIO SCHEMBRI MEETS POPE LEO XIV DURING ROME VISIT

Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri paid an official visit to the Holy See in Vatican City, where he was received by His Excellency Maximino Caballero Ledo, Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy.

The meeting marked an opportunity to reflect on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malta and the Holy See.

Both sides expressed appreciation for the strong and enduring friendship between the two States, built on shared history and values.

Minister Schembri was also received by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV following the General Audience, during which he conveyed greetings on behalf of the Government and people of Malta.

The Minister reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to further strengthening its relations with the Holy See. The Ambassador of Malta to the Holy See, His Excellency Frank Zammit, accompanied the Minister throughout his engagements.

While in Rome, Minister Schembri attended the SiGMA Central Europe Summit, celebrating the global success of the Maltese-born event.

He praised the organisers for their innovation and dedication, noting that SiGMA represents Malta’s entrepreneurial spirit.

The Minister also met with industry leaders and encouraged collaboration in emerging sectors such as blockchain, crypto, esports and artificial intelligence. He was accompanied by Malta’s Ambassador to Italy, Daniel Azzopardi.
