Minister Signs 1st Deportation Order For Two Foreign Prisoners Signing Sentence In Malta

Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield has signed the first deportation order for two Asian prisoners who were in the final weeks of their prison sentences in Malta.
The decision, said Bedingfield, forms part of a wider exercise at reducing overcrowding in prisons and easing the State’s financial burden.
‘These individuals, who will be deported at the end of their sentences, will not be allowed to re-enter Malta’, he added.
‘We are taking concrete action to protect the country’s security and resources. The national interest comes first and foremost.’
