Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering Julia Farrugia has inaugurated a new bocce pitch at the Paola Day Centre for Persons with Disabilities, marking the third facility of its kind operated by Aġenzija Sapport.

The new pitch forms part of the agency’s wider commitment to promoting sport and inclusion across its 11 day centres, which are attended by around 500 people with intellectual disabilities. More than 80 participants currently receive professional bocce training through a collaboration with Special Olympics Malta.

During the inauguration, Minister Farrugia highlighted how sport is helping individuals discover and develop their abilities, with some even representing Malta abroad. She pointed to the recent success of athletes Nevice Grech and Nathalie Galea, who won gold and silver medals respectively at the Special Olympics UAE National Games 2026 in Abu Dhabi.

The project was completed through an investment of €11,500 and forms part of a broader strategy to integrate sport into the daily curriculum of Sapport centres.

The Paola hub, which also includes the multisensory Ġnien Zaylen and other community facilities, remains open to the public during designated hours.
