Minister For Foreign And European Affairs Chris Fearne Meets EP President Roberta Metsola

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola met Foreign Affairs Minister Chris Fearne in New York as Maltese officials attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, Metsola visited Malta’s Mission to the UN, where she presented a Maltese flag with special significance to the country’s Permanent Representation.

The flag was used during UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ historic address to the European Parliament in Brussels in June 2021.

Metsola was welcomed by Malta’s Permanent Representative to the UN Natasha Meli Daudey, Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Christopher Cutajar and Malta’s Consul General in New York Denise Demicoli, alongside members of Malta’s diplomatic team.

Following the meeting, Fearne said on social media that they discussed “the situation in Malta” and the importance of keeping Malta’s name held in high regard.

He also said he explained Malta’s position against the introduction of new European taxes and in favour of maintaining the country’s voting strength within the European councils.

The visit comes amid a series of high-level meetings and events taking place alongside the UN General Assembly.
