Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Chris Fearne met with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa in Brussels ahead of the Palestine Donor Group meeting, where both sides discussed strengthening cooperation and addressing ongoing challenges faced by the Palestinian people.

During the meeting, Malta and Palestine agreed to explore areas where collaboration could be expanded, including capacity-building initiatives in the medical sector and cultural exchange programmes.

Minister Fearne reiterated Malta’s longstanding support for Palestine, highlighting the country’s recognition of the State of Palestine in September 2025 and its continued backing of a Two-State solution in international forums, including the United Nations and the European Union.

Fearne also reaffirmed Malta’s opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians in any form, stressing the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of affected communities.

The Maltese Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of the reforms being implemented by the Palestinian Authority and encouraged Prime Minister Mustafa to continue these efforts, particularly in preparation for upcoming elections.

Prime Minister Mustafa outlined the severe humanitarian and economic situation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the challenges currently facing the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian population due to the ongoing crisis.

He called on the European Union to provide emergency budget support to help address the impact of withheld revenues and banking restrictions, which have placed additional pressure on the Palestinian economy.

The meeting took place as international partners gathered to discuss continued support and assistance for Palestine amid ongoing political, humanitarian, and economic challenges.
