Minister Clint Camilleri Petitions Brussels To Improve Support For Small Fisheries

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has called for stronger European support for small-scale fisheries, insisting that EU policies must better reflect the specific needs of island regions such as Gozo.

Speaking in Brussels as part of a delegation from the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions, Camilleri discussed the future of European fisheries and the related policies for funding.

The Minister stressed the need for additional support for fishermen, particularly young people entering the sector, arguing that a scheme similar to the Young Farmers initiative should also be introduced for young fishermen.

He highlighted the importance of protecting marine resources and safeguarding the economic sustainability of fishing communities.
