Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, has announced a robust budget focused on investing in the future of Malta’s children and young people.

The budget provides for an increase in student stipends and introduces a new monthly allowance of €280 for students in Gozo. Young people aged 16 to 21 will benefit from free access to gyms, while over €13 million has been allocated to modernising school buildings. Parents of students continuing their education beyond the compulsory level will continue to receive €500 per year for three years, totalling €1,500.

A new curriculum will emphasise digital skills, numeracy, literacy, and essential life skills. The government will provide 20,000 digital devices for students in Years 4, 7, 8, and 9, alongside €500 in support for families of students in Years 10 and 11. STEM and higher education opportunities will be expanded, offering high-level courses and training with emerging industries.

The Family Community School Link will be strengthened to ensure closer collaboration between schools, families, and communities. In addition, a National Strategy for Educator Wellbeing will be introduced, along with programmes supporting the wellbeing of students, families, and teachers.

Minister Grima stressed that these measures demonstrate a firm commitment to preparing a future-ready generation equipped with the essential skills for life and work.
