MFOPD Calls for Inclusive Reform as It Marks 55 Years

The Malta Federation of Organisations of Persons with Disability (MFOPD) has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive policy-making, marking its 55th anniversary under the theme “Nothing About Us Without Us.”
As part of the celebrations, MFOPD hosted a round table conference last October, bringing together local and international stakeholders to examine the meaning of inclusion.
Discussions revealed that while the concept is widely referenced, its interpretation varies significantly across sectors.
A key message came from the Vice President of the European Disability Forum, who stressed the importance of mainstreaming services.
This approach ensures that essential sectors such as education, healthcare, employment and transport are designed to be accessible to all from the outset.
MFOPD emphasised that inclusion must move beyond rhetoric and become embedded in everyday systems.
The organisation called for ongoing dialogue and active participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making, highlighting that meaningful inclusion can only be achieved when it is built into the fabric of society.
