MET OFFICE ISSUES ORANGE WARNING AS STRONG WINDS HIT THE MALTESE ISLANDS
Local

The Met Office has issued an orange warning as strong to very strong west-northwesterly winds are expected to hit the Maltese Islands, with gusts possibly reaching gale force in exposed areas. The warning is set to remain in effect today, from 12:00 to 21:00 (GMT+1), and will be updated as conditions develop.

A video posted on TikTok yesterday captured the impact of the winds in Valletta, showing barricades toppled and umbrellas blown sideways. The blustery conditions are expected to persist, with winds reaching Force 6 to 7, particularly along coastal and exposed areas, as a low-pressure system over the Mediterranean continues to influence local weather.

Isolated showers may also occur, adding to the unsettled conditions. While some sunny intervals are forecast for Friday and Saturday, the strong winds are expected to continue into the weekend, making caution essential for residents and visitors alike.
