What an Orange Warning Means

An orange weather warning is the second-highest level issued by the Met Office. It signals potentially dangerous weather conditions that may cause disruption, damage, or hazardous situations. The public is advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall, and take precautions to protect property and vehicles.

Unsettled Weather Set to Continue

The islands are currently experiencing chilly and wet conditions as meteorological winter begins. The Met Office is forecasting further isolated showers today, potentially thundery and accompanied by hail.

These unstable conditions are being driven by a low-pressure system over the central Mediterranean, which is expected to move eastwards from tomorrow. The existing weather warning may be renewed through Friday as the unsettled pattern persists.

Despite the frequent rainfall, November remains slightly below its average monthly quota of 89.0 mm. The upcoming weekend is also expected to remain damp, with isolated showers and rather strong northwesterly winds. Winds will strengthen from this afternoon to Force 4–5, persisting until Sunday morning.

Temperatures are set to dip even further, with daytime highs between 16°C and 18°C, close to the December mean maximum of 17.2°C. Overnight lows will fall to 12°C–13°C, though the northwesterly breeze will make it feel colder, especially during the night.

Early December may offer a brief respite with partly cloudy skies on Monday 1st, before another spell of unstable weather is expected later in the week.
