Meridianbet Reinforces Support For Maltese Sport Through Sponsorships, Media Investment & Community Initiatives

Meridianbet, part of the publicly listed Golden Matrix Group (GMGI), continued to strengthen its commitment to Maltese sport throughout the year, expanding its involvement across football, aquatic disciplines, amateur competitions and grassroots initiatives, while maintaining a strong focus on community impact.
One of the most notable developments was the acquisition of the naming rights for the Meridianbet FA Trophy, in partnership with the Malta Football Association (MFA). Alongside the competition sponsorship, Meridianbet launched a corporate social responsibility initiative titled “Kull Gowl Jagħmel Differenza”, through which funds were raised in support of Inspire Malta, an organisation providing services for individuals with disabilities.

The CSR campaign extended beyond the competition itself. Ahead of the conclusion of the FA Trophy, Meridianbet also organised a five-a-side charity football tournament, with all proceeds once again donated to Inspire Malta.

The company also broadened its domestic football involvement by signing a new agreement with the Malta Premier, becoming one of the league’s official sponsors and further contributing to the development of the national game. In club football, Meridianbet maintained its long-standing partnership with Ħamrun Spartans, a sponsorship that has been in place since 2022.

Meridianbet’s support was not limited to professional football. The company also sponsored Wizards Malta, an amateur team competing on the international stage in the Soccа Champions League, reflecting its continued backing of emerging and alternative football formats.

Beyond sponsorships, Meridianbet invested further in sports media through the development of Maltasport.mt, a dedicated sports portal employing local journalists. The platform provided year-round coverage of Maltese sport, including on-site reporting from Ħamrun Spartans’ European campaign, with journalists following the team throughout their European journey.
Maltasport.mt also followed Maltese athletes abroad, including coverage of the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) held in Andorra earlier this year.

Meridianbet’s involvement in aquatic sports was reinforced through its sponsorship of Aquatic Sports Association Malta (ASA), which includes the naming rights for the Meridianbet Cup and support for both the Malta men’s and women’s national water polo teams. Further international coverage is planned, with Maltasport.mt set to follow the Malta men’s national team during their upcoming commitments in Belgrade early next year.
Through a combination of sponsorships, media investment and community-focused initiatives, Meridianbet continued to play an active role in supporting and promoting Maltese sport across multiple levels throughout the year.
Overall, Meridianbet’s sustained involvement across sponsorships, media investment and community initiatives reflects a structured and long-term approach to supporting Maltese sport. By backing competitions, clubs, national teams and amateur athletes, while also investing in local sports journalism, the company has contributed to increased visibility and engagement for sport in Malta, both domestically and internationally.
