MEP Thomas Bajada Sends Letter To EU Commission Over Arctic Metagaz Tanker

MEP Thomas Bajada has written to the European Commission regarding the tanker Arctic Metagaz, warning that the situation could pose serious risks to the environment and Malta’s water resources.

He stressed that the safety of the country, its seas and its water supply is at risk if action is not taken in time, noting that the vessel is drifting in the Mediterranean between Malta and Italy.

Bajada cautioned that a potential incident could have significant environmental consequences, particularly for a country that depends heavily on the sea and secure water supply systems.

He said Malta is closely monitoring developments and preparing for all eventualities, while urging swift and coordinated action at European level to safeguard people, marine ecosystems and essential resources.

Bajada also confirmed that a Parliamentary Question has been submitted jointly with an Italian colleague, calling for urgent attention and clarity from the Commission on the measures being taken in response to the situation.
