MEP Thomas Bajada Launches Free Public Drinking Water Initiative In Żurrieq

Labour MEP Thomas Bajada has launched a new initiative in Żurrieq aimed at giving members of the public free access to safe drinking water.

The project forms part of Bajada’s ongoing work on water accessibility, following his involvement in shaping the European Parliament’s Water Resilience Strategy. Bajada said access to water should be treated as a right rather than a privilege, adding that such principles should translate into tangible benefits for communities.

The initiative, funded by the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, is open to everyone, including residents, families, elderly people and passers-by.

Bajada also said the project aims to encourage the use of reusable bottles and reduce daily plastic consumption, while highlighting the Water Services Corporation’s investment in providing safe potable water.

He thanked Żurrieq Mayor Rita Grima and the local council for supporting the initiative and invited other councils across Malta and Gozo to explore similar projects.
