MEP Thomas Bajada Backs Renewed Push To End Twice-Yearly Clock Changes In The EU

Maltese MEP Thomas Bajada has signed an open letter supporting renewed efforts to abolish the twice-yearly clock change across the European Union.

The initiative calls on EU ministers to restart discussions on ending the practice, which has remained unresolved despite a European Commission proposal dating back to 2018.

The European Parliament adopted its position in favour of ending seasonal clock changes in March 2019, but EU member states have yet to reach a common agreement.

The letter, penned by German MEP and EPP member Peter Liese, highlights public support for the move, noting that 84% of around 4.6 million respondents to a 2018 European Commission consultation were in favour of abolishing the time changes.

While acknowledging the need to manage and coordinate changes across member states, the MEPs in favour argue that the challenges can be overcome with sufficient political will.

They are urging governments to clarify their positions and help move the long-standing proposal forward.
