MEP On Empty Maltese Market Shelves Due To StronG Weather

MEP Thomas Bajada spoke to three European Commissioners, highlighting how Malta suffers supermarket shortages whenever intense weather hits due to its geographical isolation.

The geographical isolation of islands (and mountainous regions) is overlooked by mechanisms that rely almost exclusively on GDP based criteria, he said.

The continent directly undermines the economic wellbeing of communities living on islands like Malta.

After just two days of strong weather, Malta’s impacts were ignored said Bajada. Instead of investing in long term economic resilience and food security of isolated communities, this is simply being ignored, said Bajada.

Malta is currently facing such weather again, potentially leading to similar situations.
