MEP Daniel Attard Gains Approval for Two Major Initiatives to Enhance Europe’s Tourism Sector

MEP Daniel Attard, has successfully secured approval for two important initiatives aimed at strengthening Europe’s tourism industry.
The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee has endorsed Attard’s proposals, which focus on advancing digital skills and promoting sustainable, health-focused tourism across the continent.
The first initiative, titled Upskilling and Reskilling the Tourism Ecosystem, aims to enhance digital literacy and data management capabilities among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and tourism promotion bodies. The initiative seeks to address the skills gap in the sector by reducing the need for reskilling, while also increasing digital inclusion for individuals without formal education.
Additionally, a common framework for data sharing will be developed, fostering greater competitiveness and innovation within the tourism industry.
The second initiative, The European Capital of Health Destination, places an emphasis on health and wellness as central pillars of Europe’s tourism strategy.
Drawing on Europe’s rich natural resources, health and wellness centres, and long-standing traditions in the field, this initiative promotes sustainable, year-round tourism and supports the overall vision of Brand Europe.
Key components include the establishment of a European network for sharing best practices, the creation of a dedicated digital platform for health and active tourism, and enhanced access to green spaces and healthcare services, particularly in rural areas. These initiative is expected to strengthen local economies and generate new employment opportunities.
