Taking to social media, Mellieħa councillor Matthew Borg Cuschieri called for a bigger focus on ecotourism as a potential alternative to minimise tourism impact on locals as well as to reinforce the natural gifts of Malta.

Cuschieri said that there is great interest in ecological activities and approaches given the interest people show in turtle hatching over the island this summer.

He said that this should also be taken into consideration by the government, making reference to a recent report that Għadira Bay is set to converted into the largest boat mooring in the country.

Transport Malta had called out these reports as false, saying that works to reorganise the boys have been carried out and have been placed since June.

The move had been called out by Partit Momentum, saying that TM has not disclosed the total number of new moorings being installed and leaving the public without the information needed to understand the true scale of the project.

Cushcieri criticised this plan and pushed again for an opportunity to use the environmental aspect of the Maltese islands to bring better tourism whilst also empowering the environment locally.
