The Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) has expressed disappointment over the Nationalist Party’s budget response, saying it failed to present any meaningful proposals for Malta’s cultural and creative sectors.

In a statement, MEIA said the omission was particularly concerning given that it had submitted detailed recommendations to both major parties ahead of the 2026 Budget, outlining practical measures to support artists, creative professionals, and cultural organisations.

The association highlighted ongoing structural challenges within the sector, including limited funding, weak policy frameworks, and a lack of long-term development strategies.

MEIA denounced the Opposition for offering criticism instead of constructive, evidence-based solutions.

“While we acknowledge the recent inclusion of the “creative economy” within the

Opposition’s shadow portfolio, such recognition must move beyond symbolic

titles.,” stated MEIA, “What is required are coherent, evidence-based policy commitments that recognise culture as a driver of economic, social, educational and well being

development.”

MEIA urged the Nationalist Party to engage more meaningfully with industry representatives and to integrate culture across wider policy discussions.

The organisation said the creative community is ready to contribute to a stronger, more inclusive national vision that places culture at the heart of Malta’s development.
