A national conference organised by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) brought together NGO leaders and volunteers to discuss the future of volunteering in an increasingly fast-changing society.

Held under the theme “The Future of Volunteering: Strengthening Sustainable Communities”, the event explored topics including artificial intelligence, sustainability and the long-term development of the voluntary sector. Speakers included AI expert Alexiei Dingli and sociologist Maria Carmela Borg.

Addressing the conference, Julia Farrugia highlighted new research presented by statistician Vincent Marmarà, which showed strong interest in volunteering among young people. The study found that lack of time, work commitments and family responsibilities remain the biggest barriers to participation.

During the event, MCVS chief executive Mauro Pace Parascandalo also announced the second phase of simplygiving.mt, allowing individuals to launch secure crowdfunding campaigns in aid of registered voluntary organisations.
