MCFOA Calls For Continued Dialogue On Y-Plate Sector Reforms

The Malta Cab Fleet Operators Association, MCFOA, has stated that it has been working closely with the authorities for a considerable period of time in order to improve the Y-Plate sector through constructive dialogue and long term reform.
In a statement, the Association said that the reform process currently being discussed did not emerge suddenly, noting that the industry has been aware for several months that important changes and improvements were being prepared in collaboration with the relevant authorities and stakeholders.
MCFOA said it has full trust in the competent authorities and believes that continued discussions between Government, Transport Malta, transport platforms, operators, drivers and workers’ representatives are necessary to achieve a stronger, fairer and more sustainable sector in the future.
The Association also referred to the recent accident involving the sector, describing it as a tragic incident that must be treated with seriousness and sensitivity. However, it stressed that the ongoing reform process should continue to be discussed calmly and responsibly in the interest of passengers, drivers, operators and the country as a whole.
MCFOA reiterated its commitment to supporting reforms aimed at improving professionalism, accountability, safety and overall standards across the industry. The Association maintained that cooperation between all parties remains essential to ensuring meaningful and balanced progress within the Y-Plate sector.
