Marsovin Releases Grand Maître 2024

Marsovin Winery announces the release of Grand Maître 2024, ‘Fra’ Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc’, the 27th edition of its flagship wine. First produced in 1998, Grand Maître remains one of Marsovin’s most significant releases, shaped by precision, patience and a deep respect for the estate from which it originates.
Produced under the exclusive appointment of the Maltese Association Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Grand Maître pays tribute to a different Grand Master in chronological order with each vintage. The 2024 release honours Fra’ Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc, carrying forward a series defined by historical tribute, estate provenance and Marsovin’s approach to winemaking.
The wine is produced from handpicked Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes grown at Għajn Riħana, Marsovin’s private estate in the Għajn Riħana Valley. Planted with 8,000 vines on dry, clay-rich calcareous soils, the estate offers a distinctive setting for these noble French grape varieties, giving Grand Maître its structure, depth and enduring character.

“Grand Maître symbolizes Marsovin’s commitment and passion to winemaking and viticulture as well as its to appreciation and respect toward the Sovereign military order of Malta.” stated Jeremy Cassar, CEO and 4th Generation of the Cassar family.
The 2024 vintage was defined by extreme aridity and prolonged summer heatwaves. A dry winter was briefly relieved by a February hailstorm, while heavy May rainfall preceded intense heat from mid-June to a blistering July. These conditions hastened vine development, leading to an exceptionally early harvest. As a consequence, grape yields declined, yet grape quality was outstanding, producing small, concentrated berries with high sugar, robust polyphenols, and vibrant acidity.
The wine displays a vibrant ruby-red hue. The nose is elegant and concentrated, revealing ripe plum and prune aromas. The mid-palate reveals rich black fruit, notably blackberry, leading to a slightly inky finish with smooth, velvety tannins.
