Marsaskala will host the inaugural Festa Tonn on Saturday 7th June, a festival dedicated to celebrating Malta’s fisheries sector, with a special focus on the tuna industry.

Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, launched the event, highlighting its role in promoting sustainable fishing and Malta’s maritime traditions. The festival will feature family-friendly activities, including a fishing competition, live music, educational stands, and food stalls serving fresh local tuna.

Bugeja Said emphasised that Festa Tonn is “not just an event, it’s a celebration of our identity,” aimed at helping the public appreciate the work of local fishers and the sea’s cultural importance.

Marsaskala Mayor Mario Calleja expressed his support, noting the town’s historic fishing roots and recent improvements to fishermen’s facilities. Local businesses will also contribute to charitable causes, and various voluntary organisations will take part.
