During a press conference, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, officially announced the launch of an €18 million regeneration project in Marsaskala. The project includes the reconstruction of a 1.5-kilometre promenade stretching from the parish church to the former Jerma hotel.

A key component of the initiative is a new ferry landing, which will enhance connections between Wied il-Għajn and southern Malta through the Tallinja bil-Baħar Fast Ferry service, providing direct transport to Valletta.

Minister Bonett emphasised that the regeneration project will restore Marsaskala’s dignity by creating a beautiful, safe, and accessible promenade. “In Wied il-Għajn, we are not just beautifying the area; we are creating a new way for residents and visitors to experience the town, with new mobility services such as the fast ferry, circular buses, and a Park & Ride service – all sustainable and alternative transport options,” he said.

Minister Bonet said, “This will form an integral link in the Tallinja bil-Baħar network, efficiently and reliably connecting the south with the rest of the ferry system. We are delivering on the promises we made.”

Marsaskala Mayor Mario Calleja welcomed the project, noting that the investment will restore the town’s beauty and popularity, recalling when Maltese families would flock to enjoy the promenade and natural surroundings.

Professor Vincent Marmarà presented a detailed survey among Marsaskala residents, showing strong support for the project, with more than seven in ten expressing willingness to use the fast ferry service once operational.
