Marine Biologist Shares Stunning Footage Of Bioluminescent Sea Creature

Local
Marine biologist Alan has shared a remarkable video captured by David Agius, showcasing a fiery, cylindrical filter-feeder—possibly Pyrosoma atlanticum.
This rod-shaped, pelagic tunicate derives its genus name, Pyrosoma, from its ability to emit intense bioluminescence, giving it a glowing, “fiery” appearance.
Interestingly, this glowing rod is not a single organism but a colony of zooids working together. Despite its otherworldly look, it is completely non-stinging.
