Man Caught Dumping Waste Onto Fire In Nature Spot

A man was filmed dumping a massive amount of waste onto a fire in the Wardija and Xemxija area, in a site located between a Tree Protected Area and a Bird Sanctuary.

The Malta Ranger Unit documented the individual driving in on site. ‘He proceeded to open the gate of the truck load and emptied it and set it on fire. Then he got another load.’

The Environment & Resources Authority (ERA) and Civil Protection Malta were called on site to assist. A Carob tree reportedly sustained damage from the fire.

‘Seeing the severe arrogance of the accused, and the resources he wasted due to his action, the MRU urges the Authorities to start utilising the full scope of the laws in place to deter others from committing such crimes’, reported MRU.

‘Not only did the offender dump the waste, he also put the Public’s health at risk by burning it. Monetary fines are no longer feared by big operators. It costs them more to dispose of the waste, so they are willing to risk it!’
