Man At Risk of Dying After Boat Capsizes In Mġarr Harbour

Yesterday, at around 3.15pm, the Police were informed that their assistance was required at Mġarr Harbour, Gozo.
Police officers immediately proceeded to the scene and preliminary investigations revealed that, shortly before, a 35-year-old man from Mellieħa had encountered difficulties while on board his boat, which capsized.
People who were nearby provided first aid and assisted the man out of the water.
He was brought ashore at Mġarr Harbour by members of the Armed Forces of Malta and was subsequently taken by ambulance to Gozo General Hospital. He was later transferred to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.
Magistrate Dr Monica Vella LL.D was informed of the case and has opened a magisterial inquiry.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
