Man Arrested Over €1.5 Million Malta Drug Smuggling Attempt

A 37-year-old Greek man has been arrested after police uncovered 25 kilograms of suspected cocaine hidden in his car.
The arrest occurred on Thursday evening during routine inspections on vehicles disembarking from the catamaran arriving from Sicily.
The man, who was driving an Opel, reportedly raised suspicions through his behaviour, prompting a detailed search.
The vehicle was taken to the police garage, where investigators discovered 25 packets of suspected cocaine concealed in false wooden panels on the car’s sides.
Each packet contained one kilogram, with an estimated total street value of €1.5 million.
Magistrate Dr Philip Galea Farrugia LL.D was informed of the discovery and has appointed an inquiry.
The suspect is being held at the Floriana police lock-up and is due to be arraigned in court this morning at 11:30am before Magistrate Dr Gabriella Vella LL.D.
Police investigations remain ongoing as authorities intensify efforts against drug trafficking networks.
