Man Arrested in St Julian’s Over Suspected Drug Trafficking

A 31-year-old man from Gambia, who resides in Gżira, has been arrested in connection with suspected drug trafficking following police inspections in the St Julian’s area.
The operation was carried out overnight between Monday and Tuesday by several sections of the Malta Police Force.
While officers were conducting checks near the Santa Rita steps, they noticed a man acting suspiciously. Police approached him, but he allegedly attempted to flee after noticing their presence. He was stopped shortly afterwards, arrested and searched.
During the search, police found 31 green pills divided into 14 packets, five pink pills divided into four packets, 15 packets containing a substance suspected to be cannabis, 11 packets containing a substance suspected to be cocaine, and two packets containing a yellow crystalline substance suspected to be amphetamine.
Officers also found cash and two mobile phones in his possession.
A subsequent search of the man’s residence was also carried out. During the search, police discovered additional packets containing substances suspected to be cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine, as well as pills suspected to be ecstasy.
The man was taken to Police Headquarters as investigations continue.
He is expected to be brought before the Court in the coming days in connection with the case.
