Man Arrested After Driving Stolen Vehicle Into Raħal Ġdid Shop Display To Steal

Intense investigations by police in relation to an arrest from a shop in Raħal Ġdid led to the arrest of a 44 year old man resident of Santa Luċija.

The case took place on Thursday, when at around 0240hrs, whilst police were conducting patrols in Pjazza Antoine De Paule, Raħal Ġdid, they noticed a shop’s outside display with broken glass. Investigations showed that a vehicle crashed into the display, with the person exiting the vehicle, stealing some objects and fleeing the scene.

The search for the vehicle began immediately, and it was found abandoned in Triq Xintill, Ħal Tarxien, where it was originally stolen from.

The alleged thief, who abandoned the first vehicle, fled with another vehicle. Moments later, the police identified the second vehicle which was found in Santa Luċija, with the suspected thief in the car. He was arrested on site.

The man is currently being kept in Floriana Lock Up, and is expected to be taken to court at 1100hrs today.
