In response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, a group of Maltese soldiers assigned to the Special Operations Unit has been recalled from a planned training mission in Jordan.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri confirmed that the soldiers were already en route to Jordan for specialised training when authorities decided to bring them back to Malta. The decision reflects the rapidly evolving situation in the region and the need to ensure the safety and readiness of Malta’s forces.

“The safety of our personnel is our top priority,” Minister Camilleri stated. “Authorities are closely monitoring developments and will continue to assess the situation as it unfolds.”

Malta’s Special Operations Unit, known for its high-level training and operational capabilities, had been scheduled to undergo intensive exercises in Jordan. The mission has now been temporarily suspended, with the soldiers returning to Malta to remain on standby.
