Maltese NGO MOAS Helps Over 80,000 Soldiers In Ukraine War

A Maltese-founded organisation MOAS has helped over 80,000 soldiers currently in Ukraine, an active war zone, with evacuation and medical care.
The organisation was featured in Ukrainian news source ‘Pravda,’ spotlighting their impressive work.
Founded in 2013 in Malta, the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) has become a symbol of rapid-response humanitarian aid.
Italian-American entrepreneur Christopher Catrambone launched the organisation to rescue migrants at sea, and over several years, MOAS operations in the Mediterranean saved approximately 40,000 lives.
With the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine in March 2022, MOAS shifted its focus from migration crises to conflict zones.
Today, the organisation operates exclusively in Ukraine, providing medical evacuation, frontline care, and tactical medicine training.
Over 50 specialised teams of doctors, paramedics, and drivers are stationed at 14 critical locations, equipped with resuscitation vehicles that function as mobile intensive care units.
These vehicles are outfitted with world-class medical technology, enabling crews to treat the most severe cases during transport.
Initially staffed by international professionals, MOAS has integrated Ukrainian specialists and now operates in coordination with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and emergency services.
To date, the organisation has evacuated over 83,000 wounded soldiers and treated 38,000 patients, including those in extreme danger under enemy fire.
Despite funding challenges, Catrambone remains motivated by a simple goal: reuniting soldiers with their families.
