Għimmanu-El Ghaqda Presepisti Għajnsielem (Gozo, Malta) proudly announces the opening of its 5th international exhibition of Maltese Nativity scenes, hosted this year in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

The exhibition forms part of the association’s ongoing mission to promote the unique artistry and centuries-old tradition of Maltese crib craftsmanship across Europe.

Following previous editions in Turin, Bergamo, Rome, and Brussels, this year’s event marks another significant milestone, bringing Maltese creativity to one of Spain’s most renowned centres for Nativity art.

A total of 30 participants from Malta and Gozo are taking part, showcasing a diverse collection of handcrafted cribs that highlight the distinct Maltese style, culture, and spiritual heritage.

The association was invited by the Asociación de Belenistas de Jerez to participate as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the first Nativity exhibition held in Jerez. This special occasion strengthens the cultural ties between Malta and Spain and honours a shared passion for the traditional art of the Nativity scene.

Għimmanu-El Ghaqda Presepisti Għajnsielem extends its gratitude to the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, in particular the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, whose support made the Maltese participation possible.

Association President of Għimmanu-El Ghaqda Presepisti Għajnsielem Mr Paul Stellini said “In showcasing our work here in Jerez, we want to underline that the Maltese Nativity scene stands shoulder to shoulder with the Italian and Spanish traditions,” said the President of Għimmanu-El Ghaqda Presepisti Għajnsielem. “Our artisans employ techniques that are every bit as refined—ranging from intricate figurine modelling to detailed scenography and innovative material use. This exhibition is a celebration of that craftsmanship and a testament to Malta’s place within the wider European heritage of crib artistry.”

The exhibition is now open to the public in Jerez de la Frontera and will remain accessible until 11 January 2026.
