Maltese Firefighter's Assist With Major Wildfire In Portugal's Guarda Region

Maltese firefighter were deployed to Portugal, where they have officially assisted in responding to a major wildfire in the Guarda region.

The Maltese squad is currently in Portugal as part of the ‘EU Civil Protection Humanitarian Aid,’ a programme dedicated to deploying different European firefighting teams in high risk areas during wildfire season.

On their social media, the Civil Protection Department shared that “our firefighters operated alongside their Portuguese counterparts in challenging wildfire conditions, contributing personnel and resources to the ongoing firefighting effort.”

This operation required approximately 320 firefighters, 85 vehicles and 11 firefighting aircraft to bring the wildfire under control, and secure surrounding areas.
