Maltese filmmaker Joshua Cassar Gaspar's debut feature film, ‘The Theft of the Caravaggio,’ is set to reach a major new audience after securing distribution across North America on Apple TV, Amazon and other leading digital platforms.

The gripping mystery follows Orpheus, a cathedral caretaker whose life is turned upside down when he discovers that a priceless Caravaggio masterpiece has disappeared while under his watch.

Filmed entirely in Malta on 35mm film, the production showcases the island's cinematic beauty while featuring an impressive local cast including Paul Kissaun, Elektra Anastasi, Peter Galea and Narcy Calamatta, alongside British actor Robert Grose.

Produced by Valletta Pictures, the film premiered in competition at the Mediterrane Film Festival last year before embarking on a successful international festival run. It has since been screened at prestigious events including the Toronto International Film Festival Industry programme, the European Film Festival in Abu Dhabi and the Art Film Festival, with further screenings still to come in the United States and Canada.

Following its North American release, ‘The Theft of the Caravaggio’ will continue its international journey with distribution across Europe, marking another milestone for Maltese cinema on the global stage.
