MaltaToday Survey Shows Labour Leading By 7,500 Votes
Local

A MaltaToday March survey indicates that the Labour Party retains a narrow but consistent lead over the Nationalist Party, with a projected advantage of roughly 7,500 votes.

The poll places Labour support at 48.2% against 45.6% for the Nationalists, a gap of 2.6 percentage points. This represents a slight narrowing from the 3.2-point lead recorded in January.

The survey, conducted among 784 respondents over the past two weeks, suggests that with a projected turnout of about 80.7% the gap would translate into roughly 7,492 votes.

This is down from an estimated 9,262-vote advantage in January. Despite the small change, Labour’s lead has remained broadly stable since October.

Higher abstention among Labour’s 2022 voters remains the main factor behind the reduced gap.

While 13.3% of those who voted Labour in the last general election now say they intend not to vote, only 5.6% of Nationalist voters report the same. Overall, the share of respondents who say they will not vote has increased slightly from 18.9% to 19.3%.

The survey also shows that 78.2% of Labour voters in 2022 would repeat their choice, compared with 86.3% of Nationalist voters. Meanwhile, 6% of Labour voters say they would now vote Nationalist, while 3.7% of Nationalist voters would switch to Labour.

On leadership, Prime Minister Robert Abela enjoys a stronger trust rating than Opposition leader Alex Borg.

Abela is trusted to run the country by 44.1% of respondents compared with 37.7% for Borg, giving the prime minister a lead of just over six points.
