Malta Would Have Amongst Highest Maternity Leaves In EU With PL’s Proposal

According to Spunt.mt, the Labour Party’s proposal to increase maternity leave with 8 weeks would see Malta acquire one of the highest maternity leaves in the EU.
Currently, Malta has the same maternity leave rate as Romania at 18 weeks, just behind Estonia, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Poland.
The increase would see Malta jumping to 26 weeks of maternity leave, just over Hungary’s 24 and matched with Ireland’s
Labour is also proposing one month of paternal leave, up from two weeks, and both parents could benefit from six months of voluntary parental leave that can be split up however they wish.
