Malta With Lowest Fertility Rate In EU In 2024

According to data issued by Eurostat, Malta had the lowest fertility rate in the EU in 2024, with 1.01 live births per woman.
The EU fertility rate was 1.34 live births per woman, down from 1.38 in 2023, meaning Malta’s rate, whilst the lowest, was still not far off.
The highest birth rate was recorded in Bulgaria at 1.72 live births per woman, followed by France and Slovenia at 1.61 and 1.52.
Spain recorded the second lowest rate at 1.10, followed by Lithuania at 1.11.
