According to Eurostat, 7.7% of Maltese 15 to 29 year olds live in overcrowded households.

This places Malta as the country with the third lowest rate of such households, after Cyprus at 3.5% and Ireland at 7.4%.

Overcrowding refers to a household without at least: one room for the household, one room per couple, one room for each single person aged 18+, one room per pair of same-gender children 12-17, one room for each remaining child aged 12-17, and one room per pair of children under 12.

Romania recorded the highest rate at 60.4%, followed by Latvia and Bulgaria at 54.9% and 52.8%.
