Malta With 2nd Lowest Amount Of Primary & Secondary Teachers Aged 50+ In EU

According to data issued by Eurostat, Malta had the second lowest rate of teachers aged 50 or over in 2025 in the EU.
Malta registered 20.9% of teachers having reached 50 and over, following Ireland at 20.8% and overtaking Luxembourg at 22.0%.
The majority of Maltese teachers were aged 30 to 49 years, with just about 12% being aged under 30.
In 2025, there were 5.30 million teachers who worked in primary and secondary schools across the EU, which is 36,500 more than in 2023.
Most of the teachers were women at 72.9% across the EU, with men making up the remaining 27.1%.
