Malta With 2nd Highest Rate Of Self-Employed 20 To 29 Year Olds In EU

According to Eurostat data, Malta has the second highest rate of self-employed 20 to 29 year olds in the European Union.
Out of the entire self-employed cohort aged 20 to 64, 10.5% were self-employed in Malta, marking it the second highest in the EU.
In 2025, 2.06 million people aged 20-29 in the EU were self-employed, representing 7.9% of all self-employed people aged 20-64.
Malta’s rank follows Slovakia’s 12.2% and above Romania’s 10.3%. The lowest rate is Ireland is 5.1%.
