Malta To Benefit From €3.7 Million EU Aid Package After Storm Harry Damage

The Maltese islands are set to benefit from aid from the European Union after Storm Harry incurred damages back in January of this year.
The storm hit the Maltese islands, amongst other European countries, damaging various spots, establishments and property during its passage over the Mediterranean. Among them was Għar Lapsi, which is still undergoing reconstruction.
Now, the European Parliament has voted in favour of a €489 million aid package for various countries in the EU, with Malta set to benefit from up to €3.7 million. An advance of €931.014 was already received.
Out of 671 voters, 651 voted yes for the package, whereas only 17 voted against and 3 did not vote.
The European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) support helps finance emergency and recovery measures, such as restoring energy, water, wastewater, telecommunications and transport infrastructure, as well as to fund health and education services.
The aid also covers clean-up operations, temporary accommodation and rescue services, and measures to secure preventive infrastructure and protect cultural heritage.
