Malta Set To Receive €3.72 Million In EU Aid After Storm Harry

Malta could receive €3.72 million in European Union funding to support recovery efforts following the damage caused by Storm Harry in January 2026.

Minister for European Funds Keith Azzopardi Tanti welcomed the European Commission’s proposal, which forms part of a wider €489 million package for Portugal, Spain, Italy and Malta under the EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF).

The funding proposal follows Malta’s application under the EUSF mechanism, submitted after the storm caused widespread disruption and damage across Malta and Gozo.

Storm Harry brought strong winds, heavy rainfall, rising sea levels and powerful waves, damaging public infrastructure and affecting daily life in communities across the islands.

Azzopardi Tanti said the application process had been initiated under his predecessor, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, while thanking officials and entities involved in compiling the necessary assessments and documentation.

The proposed funding can support emergency and recovery operations, including infrastructure repairs, clean-up efforts, temporary accommodation, essential services and measures to protect cultural heritage and strengthen preventive infrastructure.
