The Planning Authority and the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation have formalised a Public Social Partnership Agreement to enhance public spaces across Malta and Gozo through the Malta Sabiħa Initiative. The agreement was signed by Johann Buttigieg and Andrew Agius Muscat during a ceremony led by Minister Clint Camilleri.

This strategic partnership will support a long term programme of regeneration, embellishment, and placemaking projects on land and at sea. The aim is to strengthen Malta’s identity as a Mediterranean island nation while contributing to a broader vision of the country as an outdoor museum. Initial funding of €5 million has been allocated from the Development Planning Fund, with further financing released in phases according to established governance and transparency procedures.

The initiative brings together local and international stakeholders to improve public spaces, foster innovation, and encourage cultural exchange. The Mediterranean Tourism Foundation will play a key role in connecting global expertise with national partners, ensuring high quality projects that reflect both Maltese heritage and wider Mediterranean character.

Malta Sabiħa also aligns with Malta Vision 2050 by promoting sustainable land and sea use, enhancing tourism experiences, and strengthening collaborative governance. Leaders involved emphasised the importance of long term environmental improvement, cultural enrichment, and people centred development.

An annual international conference will showcase progress and reinforce Malta’s role as a hub for culture and destination development, ensuring lasting benefits for residents and visitors alike.
