Malta’s Western Region has been named the Cultural Region for 2027. Alison Zerafa Civelli, the Minister for Local Government and Public Works, announced plans to highlight the area’s artistic and cultural traditions through a €250,000 investment.

The 12-month programme will bring together ten localities through cultural pilgrimages, musical concerts, exhibitions, visits to historical and archaeological sites, traditional festivities, and initiatives showcasing Maltese crafts and folklore.

The region comprises Mdina, Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Dingli, Kirkop, Mqabba, Qrendi, Rabat, Safi and Żurrieq.

At least three major events, including opening and closing celebrations, are planned, with all activities being free of charge and open to the public.

The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between Local Councils, support local artists and organisations, and ensure Malta’s cultural heritage continues to be appreciated by future generations.
