Malta's Telemedicine Service Handles Around 350 Cases Daily, Says Health Minister Ian Borg

Ian Borg, Minister for health, visited the Malta’s Telemedicine Centre yesterday where he took the time to meet with the dedicated workers.
Borg stated that the Centre tackles “up to 350 medical consultations” on a daily basis, with 70% of patients not even needing to leave home.
Malta’s Telemedicine system is aimed at offering the public with medical guidance when a situation is not urgent.
Additionally, the 1400 helpline is in place to assist those who are unsure whether they should seek emergency treatment.
Around 9,000 medical consultations take place every month by doctors through the country telemedicine service.
In addition to medical consultations, the Centre's staff also respond to public enquiries about other Primary HealthCare services. Altogether, including medical consultations and general assistance, the Centre handles approximately 90,000 telephone calls every month.
