Malta’s Spring 2026 Much Drier Than Usual: 60.4mm of Rain Across 3 Months

The spring season has come to an end, paving the way for the start of the meteorological summer.
According to the Meteorological Office, this year spring was generally drier than average, particularly during May, which recorded significantly less rainfall than the climatic norm.
Although March was relatively wet and brought more rainfall than its monthly quota, the season as a whole remained below average.
The MET Office recorded a total of 60.4 mm of rainfall during the three spring months, with over three-quarters of this amount falling in March alone.
During that month, 46.2 mm of rainfall were measured, exceeding the monthly norm by 6.5 mm. However, lower-than-average rainfall during April and May meant that the seasonal total fell short of the spring climatic norm of 68.7 mm.
Temperatures throughout spring remained close to average levels. The season's mean temperature stood at 17.3°C, which was 0.5°C above the climatic norm.
Meanwhile, the meteorological summer has begun with a spell of warm and sunny weather. Maximum temperatures during the first week ranged between 30°C and 32°C and are expected to remain at similar levels in the coming days.
UV levels have also increased, reaching a very high level of 10. The public is encouraged to stay informed through the latest forecasts and weather updates.
