The estimated total population of Malta and Gozo reached 588,254 by the end of 2025, representing an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous year.

The resident population consisted of 68.9% Maltese citizens and 31.1% non-Maltese citizens. The non-Maltese population was largely concentrated within working-age groups, with the highest proportions among those aged between 20 and 49.

During 2025, resident live births decreased by 0.8%, while resident deaths increased by 1.4%. This resulted in the natural increase dropping from 193 in 2024 to 98 in 2025.

Population density remained highest in central harbour areas, with Tas-Sliema, Tal-Pietà, and L-Isla recording the highest concentrations of residents per square kilometre, while more rural localities such as L-Għasri, San Lawrenz, and L-Imdina recorded the lowest densities.
