Malta's Population Has Grown By Nearly 140,000 People In Just 10 Years

Malta's population has increased by almost 140,000 people over the past decade, according to new figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) ahead of World Population Day.
At the end of 2015, Malta's population stood at 449,635. By the end of 2025, that figure had risen to 588,254, an increase of 138,619 people, or almost 31% in just ten years.
The latest NSO data also shows that Malta's population grew by 2.4% during 2025 alone.
According to the NSO, net migration, the difference between people moving to Malta and those leaving, was the main driver of last year's population growth, accounting for 13,906 additional residents. Around 78.1% of net migrants were non-EU citizens.
Meanwhile, natural population growth continued to slow, with fewer births and more deaths recorded during the year.
The figures were published as part of the NSO's annual release marking World Population Day, celebrated globally on 11 July.
