Malta's national minimum wage will increase to approximately €6 per hour in 2027, following the latest increase announced during Budget 2027.

But how much does that mean every month, and how does Malta compare with the rest of Europe?

So, how much will workers earn?

From January 2027, the minimum wage for workers aged 18 and over will increase by €10.41 per week, including the €6.41 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

This brings the minimum wage to approximately:

Hourly: €6.00

Weekly: €239.85

Monthly: €1,039

Annually: €12,472

These amounts are before deductions and exclude statutory bonuses.

But how much actually goes into your bank account?

Your gross salary is what you earn before deductions. Your net salary, or take-home pay, is what remains after income tax and social security contributions.

Minimum-wage workers in Malta will continue paying no income tax in 2027.

However, they must still pay social security contributions, generally around 10% of their wages.

This means someone earning the minimum wage could take home approximately €935 per month, excluding statutory bonuses.

How does Malta compare with Europe?

According to Eurostat's July 2026 figures, monthly minimum wages included:

🇱🇺 Luxembourg: €2,771

🇮🇪 Ireland: €2,391

🇩🇪 Germany: €2,343

🇪🇸 Spain: €1,425

🇨🇾 Cyprus: €1,088

🇲🇹 Malta: €994

🇧🇬 Bulgaria: €620

Malta's new 2027 minimum wage of approximately €1,039 would remain below several other European countries' published 2026 rates.

However, these comparisons do not account for differences in living costs, taxation or purchasing power.

Do you think €6 an hour is enough to live comfortably in Malta?
