Malta’s Free Gym Membership Scheme For Youth To Continue In 2027, PM Confirms

Malta's free gym membership scheme for young people will continue in 2027, despite not being mentioned during Finance Minister Clyde Caruana's Budget speech on Monday.
Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that the initiative will not be discontinued and will remain in place next year, under the arrangements previously announced.
The clarification comes after the scheme was left out of the Budget 2027 speech, raising questions about whether young people would continue benefiting from free gym access.
The scheme currently offers six months of free gym membership to eligible young people aged 16 to 21, allowing them to exercise at participating gyms across Malta and Gozo.
Originally introduced for young adults aged 18 to 20, the initiative was later expanded to include more age groups.
Earlier in 2026, Abela also announced that eligible young people who had already benefited from the scheme could qualify for another six months of free gym membership.
Speaking following Budget 2027, the Prime Minister clarified that Government schemes introduced in previous years would continue even if they were not specifically mentioned in the latest Budget speech.
He explained that the Government's approach is not to withdraw measures that have already been introduced.
This means eligible young people will continue benefiting from the free gym initiative in 2027, with the scheme remaining part of the Government's efforts to encourage healthier and more active lifestyles.
